Special Tales

Dexter Young

Little Dexter Young gave true meaning to the phrase, “one sick puppy.” It’s not often that puppies are referred to GVS because fortunately, most puppies are healthy. But the 11-week-old Dexter was indeed one sick puppy. So sick, in fact, that his regular vet gently warned Mr. and Mrs. Young that Dexter might not make it. Dexter was referred to GVS because of pneumonia – a complication of the kennel cough that he had from a very early age. “When we brought him home from the breeder, we noticed a cough, but we never realized how sick he really was,” says Gloria Young. Once at GVS, Dexter was immediately administered strong medications as well as oxygen to clear the pneumonia and help him breathe. “He couldn’t even raise his head the first day. It was a miracle that the pneumonia cleared up so quickly. GVS saved his life.”
